Darn Video Card

Post by CrimsonScuba on September 3rd 2011, 10:32 pm

So I run COD WAW at 15-20FPS, The fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

What video card should I buy to run MW,MW2,WAW w/o lag?

I currently have
ATI Radeon 4250 HD (integrated)
AMD Athlon II X4 635 Processor, ~2.9GHz
4 Gigs RAM

Also how do I know if a video card is compatible with my PC?

Change the DirectX to an older version like DX8
lower field of view as much as you can
lower resolutions

check what slots are in your pc and see if things can fit in those slots

Also look at your power supply - if you get a video card that draws more power than your system can put out, you could fry more than just the PSU/video card

GTX 460 is an affordable card that will generally give you satisfying results. If you can spend more bucks though I would go for a GTX 500+

What video card should I buy to run MW,MW2,WAW w/o lag? I don't want to spend too much since I will build my own PC in about an year or so.

ATI Radeon 4250 HD (integrated)

You have a very similar computer to mine. I got a 550W PSU and a GTX 460 and it runs fine for about 260 bucks.

I opened my PC up and it said output 250Watt max and it had some other equation like 165wattmax +nsadlkfjsdl 218 wattmax. O_o

Where does video card go in?

You see those long black things, that go from 3 small to 1 long one?

You'll be putting a new graphics card in the long one, which is the PCIE express x16 slot.

The best card you can get is a 6450 with that power supply. What's your budget. Maybe you could buy power supply, too. And, what size is your case? Take pics of it if you don't know.

How would you be able to get a 6450 with a 250 watt psu?
Most mid-high end graphic cards will take up 200 or so max.
But, it depends on what you're doing. If you are going to play high-end games, upgrade your psu and get a nice graphics card.
Try using this calculator for psu wattage. http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine (I'm not sure if I can post links here, tell me if I can't.)
Good Luck

(My Computer goes to about 500 watts according to this calculator. I got a 600 watt psu.

Opened my grandma's computer then POOF.

And Sinn...

6450 is no where near mid-high. It doesn't even use 35 watts on full load. He also might be able to power a 6570.

same here. Very Happy
except 600W instead of 550W.
graphics got a little better and lagged a little less on CA..
could fraps with better settings.
but every other game i played was pretty good with the card.

butttttttttt, i had a 6850 before and it'd shut off every 2 mins which meant my power supply wasn't enough.. x__x
sooooooooooooooooo, yeaaaaaaaaah. LOL
if that helps :s (probably not cause i'm computer challenged) :/

oh and if you can't get the stuff online, is there a memory express anywhere near you D:

How...If we're talking about a radeon hd 6450, it can top out to be about 250 watts.
EDIT: I'm getting crossroads. Some people say it goes to 100w full load, and some say 300 full load...wtf?

If we are talking about the 6450, then its recommend you have a 400 watt PSU. The card itself isn't going to use 400 watts, but don't forget you have other stuff in your computer that needs power too, that being pretty much everything.

Anyway a 250 watt PSU isn't going to be able to do anything at all, I strongly recommend you upgrade to at least a 400-500 watt PSU.

Also here is a pro tip for you noobs: When looking for information about stuff, the manufactures website is generally the best place to look.

The problem wouldn't be your power. 600 watts is more than enough. It might be your card, or it's suffocating. And there's also Fry's.
