Dat PC

Post by CrimsonScuba on August 23rd 2011, 8:30 pm

I was wondering in what price range a video card would be to run BF3 and future PC games.

Would my PC last me a few years for games or will it be obsolete soon?

AMD Athlon II X4 635 Processor, ~2.9GHz

A rough guess is around $150+ for a new mid-range card. It should probably last you a few years too.

Its almost the end of the year so Nvidia and AMD are going to be releasing some new cards soon, keep an eye out for them.

Would that be the minimum? Say to run on mid settings smoothly.

GTX 460 is about 160-220 and will run it comfortably. I can max out BC2 with mine and I have the same processor as you so I am sure it will work for you.

I haven't looked into the requirements on BF3 or anything yet.

I'm just saying you will probably need a new model, mid-range card to play it decent, and those will probably run you $150+. Just a rough guess.

Oh and Erik, BF3 is going to be more demanding than BC2.

The GTX 460 1GB is the recommended card to run Battlefield 3 (according to bf3blog), but EA/DICE hasn't released the official requirements yet

I got an asuseah5770. I will be able to run 1080p bf3 with mid-high settings. Cost 110 dollars or so right now. But, don't worry about maxing out bf3. It took a lot of power.

Why do I doubt that any $110 video card can even run bf3 in 1080p... Unless you got that shit on an epic sale or sold off part of the price w/ your body D:

I have a GTX 250 with a GB of DDR3 onboard.
Then 4 GB of Ram.

I"m probably going to try to get 4 more for BF3.

GTX 560 Ti is better because most games like Nvidia.

I got asuseah5770 last year, on christmas. It will run 1080p battlefield 3 on mid-high settings. People have tested its performance on crysis 2, and it will do pretty well for battlefield 3

Hmm... Pretty sure you have pretty low power, so you should get a 5670 or 6670. Maybe a 5770 or 6770. They're entry-mid range cards. Try finding out how much power you have.

For now. We will have to wait and see what they both come up with this year. AMD looks promising, they are doing major architecture changes and switching to 28nm. Nvidia is doing that to but they are sticking with a similar architecture. So AMD could pull ahead this year again.
