Spoiler:

I'm only going to get a PS4 if fighting game publishers don't get their shit together and start releasing on PC.

Obviously Sony did the better marketing job here and realized that there isn't a very big difference between the PlayStation and Xbox, so the small differences like 24 hour checkup DRM and game borrowing are going to end up being the determining factor.

Xbox 360 had a higher player-base because of it's lower price and that ended up getting more people to peer pressure their friends into getting one. Seems like the roles have reversed now because PS4 has a lower starting price. Maybe Microsoft will do a better job next time.

Honestly like every form of entertainment is converging on the internet right now. Cable/satellite subscriptions are going down because Netflix or other online TV programs cost a lot less. Consoles are slowly losing market share because PC is less costly in the long run and much more versatile. DVD & Bluray are becoming obsolete because they just get pirated. Film publishers need to get anti-pirating systems. Predicting that within the next 50 years basically everything is going to be PC/internet based. Only reason consoles are still around is because of peer-pressure and idiots that don't think in the long term, "Hurr durrr, $400 for a console is less than $1200 for a gaming PC" (except, in all likeliness you'll be buying a PC for $500-$800 dollars anyways and there aren't any subscription fees for a PC like Live. Other than internet, which you'll be getting anyways, and you won't have to buy a new PC every 3 years because a new updated barely-different next gen PC is coming out and all your friends are going to have it. In the long-run with next gen consoles and your inability to buy individual parts to make an upgrade, you're going to pay a lot more for consoles than a PC.)

tl;dr: Buying a PS4 if fighting game publishers don't release their games on PC, since Xbox is going to be less popular and cost more. Hopefully I won't have to buy a PS4 at all because consoles are dying along with mostly every other form of non PC-based entertainment.

That's just so long as the PC-gaming market continues to grow the way it has for the past several years, though in recent months, games like WoW saw a DROP in players.

Not all consoles are dying out.  Xbone will suffer greatly, but the PS4 may cause Sony to see popularity they haven't seen since the days of PS2.

Also, I doubt disc-based media will ever be obsolete.

Consoles aren't dying as long as kids/parents with no foresight or knowledge of computer hardware exist.

It IS cheaper to plop $400 on a PS4 for your kids if you don't know how to build a computer. The PS4 will keep a lot of people content for a few years (ignorance is bliss) whereas getting/building a gaming computer requires both technical knowledge and more money up-front.

Spoiler:
It's definitely still growing. WoW has seen a drop in players because it's old and, much like Xbox 360 currently, it only maintained it's popularity because of the player-base peer pressuring non-players into playing. People are starting to lose interest because more interesting new games are coming out.

Those new games are picking up the lost players from WoW. As for "games like" WoW, I don't know what other games you mean. MMORPGs? MOBAs are the new trend, it seems.

They already are obsolete. A program that lets you watch shows or movies will have it's own security, while physical media can easily be ripped and pirated. Obviously all media will get ripped from that show/movie eventually anyways, but make it hard enough to crack and the standard 12 year old typing in thepiratebay.se won't be able to access it, at the least. Obviously there are plenty of exceptions where physical media is a must, but for the majority of consumers, internet based is easier, harder to pirate, and more accessible. The problem is that we've seen a drastic increase in technology but not a drastic increase in technological competency. That's a given for the older generations, but taking a look at the current generation will show that competency is rising pretty steadily.

tl;dr: PC market IS growing, WoW's player base is just switching games because WoW is garbage. Consoles get their fluctuations, but they're still gradually going down. Physical media certainly has it's uses, but most of the time it's easier and better to have it stored on your comp. Pretty sure flash drives are going to get way more popular in the future, too. Maybe replace discs altogether. They're just portable HDDs really.

Spoiler:
Consoles are already becoming more and more PC-like. Eventually the companies are going to compete with each other to the point where they're just producing PCs labeled as consoles. At which point the consoles will be directly competitive with PCs and will most definitely lose, since PCs are part of a completely free market where anyone can create one and you can't exactly boot the companies that produce PC parts out of the market.

Consoles aren't dying yet - they're becoming PCs. Starting prices are increasing, they're becoming more versatile, and the only thing REALLY separating a console from a PC is that most people don't use theirs as one and software developers can't and aren't producing for consoles. Microsoft and Sony are obviously working against this, but it's only a matter of time before the only things they have to improve are hardware, and if they want to improve software, they may as well be creating a PC specialized for gaming. PC has retained a pretty constant market share for games since the start of consoles. Consoles have gone up and down, completely been discontinued, and PC has always been there rising steadily.

Most people have a pretty decent computer these days and can play popular games on it anyways. The only problem is literacy really, and that can only be solved by time.

As for consoles being cheaper, as a one time thing it certainly is, but when peer pressure is the main motivator for console buyers, you HAVE to buy the next gen console when it comes out, or you're left in the dust. Meaning you're going to have to upgrade for another 400-500 dollars when the next one comes out, and ad nauseum. Maybe people will realize they could buy a PC for $1200 and have it last them 7+ years rather than buy a console every 3 years for another $400 and have the PC do so many more things than a console, added on top of the fact that they'd be buying a PC anyways.

tl;dr: Gradually, kids and parents will become more competent with tech and will realize it's better to just get a PC. That's a given result of our huge technological increase in the past couple decades. Consoles are cheaper if they're a one-time thing and you don't plan on ever getting a PC, but in the long run you're going to have to buy the next gen console continuously and that will definitely end up costing you more, plus most normal people get a PC anyways. And really, all you have to do to build a budget PC is run a couple of Google searches on the best current builds, order the parts, then bring them to your local PC shop for a small assembly fee. Or read the directions, they're pretty straightforward and basic.

Pff, who has friends for split screen anymore?

Don't PC versions of games have split screen, though? I know you can use multiple controllers at once.
I've played against friends in SSFIV before, but that isn't exactly split screen, just local versus.

Nobody likes split screen. The best party games share a screen anyways.

I guess people who planned to get the kinect anyways will get a better deal with the X1 since it's like a $100 device (how the fuck am I supposed to abbreviate Xbox One? Xbone is autistic) but other than that, I can't imagine why anyone would get the Xbox other than them being a massive fanboy of one of it's exclusives.

Consoles won't die anytime soon. They have the benefit of paying a good lump sum for a system that will play games for them at a decent setting that will last them for 5-7 years.
Thinking consoles will die soon is stupid as fuck.

Not soon, nor will they probably even 'die' in our lifetimes, but by the time we're 80 they're probably going to be almost indistinguishable from actual computers because companies will continue to make consoles more and more versatile(in other words, more and more like PC).

Primarily though, they have the benefit of marketing and popularity. Do you see many ads for computers or PC gaming on TV? Not many popular PC exclusives, either.
The more consoles become like PCs, the less reason game publishers have to make exclusives for them and the less reason people have to continue buying the next gen consoles and wasting money.

Eventually people will get competent enough in technology to realize they're spending more money than they have to on consoles and it's more cost efficient to get a PC.

I lost my shit. Can't stop laughing at how much shit microsoft is smearing over themselves.

Too bad windows is still the only halfway decent OS or I would be done with these faggots.

I expect less than half of the initial run of xbones will sell and no more will be made. Ever.

And those who buy it are uninformed or just fanboys. The xbone's price, required kinect and constant need to check up on the internet make it an inferior console compared to the PS4. It's exclusives can't save it unless they deck the price by a shit ton.
